I have only ever completed one short story(that wasn’t for a school assignment). I had never found a style that worked for me because I have a painfully hard time with accidentally switching tenses while I am writing and once I notice that’s what I did I usually give up and ditch the idea altogether 🤣
The one story I was able to finish was a dystopian set journal style so all I had to do was get in the head of a character who was writing down events. They could be past or present depending on the moment.
It clicked in my head and I was able to finish it and edit it decently enough.

Journal style books are so cool to read! I bet the book turned out wonderful, as that’s a perfect style for a dystopian.
And don’t worry about those tenses - I struggle with them too. Every writer has something that they get frustrated at when it comes to writing!
